In partnership with the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC), the program will support Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQ+ young people by increasing access to supports and activities through the Friendship Centre in support of overall well-being. This program is aimed at youth and families.
An Indigenous Mentor will provide one-on-one services with individuals and with groups, engaging Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQ+ in a community-driven research process to self-define well-being and explore ways that Friendship Centres and surrounding communities can support a sense of belonging.
Program Objectives
- To increase the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values of traditional Indigenous ways of life provide appropriate support to Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQ+ young people.
- To promote cultural restoration, preservation and to ensure safe transmission of culture for Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQ+ urban Indigenous children, youth and families.
- To encourage and foster well-being, a positive sense of Indigenous identity, and a sense of belonging in the Friendship Centres.
