Kizhaay Anishnaabe Niin Program Coordinator
Objectives: To engage and support Indigenous men and male youth committed to ending all forms of violence perpetrated against Indigenous women and girls.
Responsibilities: The Kizhaay Anishnaabe Niin Program Coordinator will ensure all aspects of the Kizhaay Anishnaabe Niin program are planned, coordinated, delivered, maintained, and evaluated. In addition, will practice and role model cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed wholistic approach within the broader community
- Conduct initial intake assessments to determine the types of supports required
- Provide one-to-one and participant-based support services includes creating action plans
- Facilitate programming within correctional institutions and the provision of reintegration support for men and youth-aged males involved within various stages of criminal justice system involvement
- Educate men and youth-aged males in approaches to identifying and addressing their own abusive behaviours and implement alternative approaches to conflict resolution
- Encourage healthy violence free lifestyles through the provision of educational supports and the establishment of a supportive learning environment
- Coordinate local community events to promote Indigenous men’s roles in ending violence against Indigenous women and girls
- Create opportunities for Indigenous men and youth-aged males to engage with Elders, Traditional people, cultural and land-based activities
- Refer participants to appropriate counselling and treatment services in instances where mental illness and substance use are identified as issues of concern by the participant
- Promote healing circles, peer support networks and self-help processes to assist in men’s healing, positive identity development, learning alternative approaches to child discipline and Indigenous-specific intimate partner conflict resolution strategies
- Provide alternative options to institutional involvement through collaboration with Ontario Court of Justice administration, Probation and Parole Offices, and Correctional Institutions
Qualifications
- A combination of education and work-related experience will be considered
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, social work, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of related work experience within an Indigenous community.
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture and history, (The Seven Grandfather Teachings).
- Knowledge of working with the justice system, probation, and parole systems
- Understanding of Indigenous youth engagement models of practice, community engagement methodology, even coordination and program facilitation approaches
- Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and trouble-shooting skills
- Experience in building and maintaining positive working relationships with local organizations/institutions to foster collaborative and coordinated approaches to achieving program objectives

Akwe:go Program Worker
Objective: To provide support, tools, and healthy activities to urban Indigenous children (ages 7-12) to promote healthy choices and wholistic wellbeing in a culturally sensitive manner.
Responsibilities: The Akwe:go Program Worker will ensure all aspects of the Akwe:go program are designed, planned, coordinated, delivered, maintained, and evaluated. In addition, will practice and role model cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed wholistic approach within the broader community.
- Conduct initial intake assessments to determine the types of supports required
- Provide individuals with one-to-one and participant-based support services
- Provide wrap-around services and a strengths-based action plan for each service user
- Participate in case conferences, Children’s Aid Society (CAS) plans of care, goal-setting, and case management processes;
- Refer children to appropriate services as required and to document, advocate and liaise with internal and external resources and supports;
- Collaborate with existing NFC program workers when planning activities and events;
- Support the delivery and facilitation of knowledge transfer on traditional medicines and food education, e.g. teachings, use, storage, medicine bags, growing/picking, caring for, etc.;
- Provide a safe environment for 2SLGBTQ+ children through inclusive practices and diverse programming;
- Provide awareness and ensure program access through a variety of outreach efforts and promotional activities within the community;
Qualifications:

Addictions and Mental Health Program Worker
Objectives: To provide culture-based supports to urban Indigenous individuals challenged by addictions and mental health issues.
Responsibilities: The Addictions and Mental Health Program Worker will ensure all aspects of the Addictions and Mental Health program are designed, planned, coordinated, delivered, maintained, and evaluated. In addition, will practice and role model cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed wholistic approach within the broader community.
- Conduct initial intake assessments to determine the types of supports required
- Develop a strengths-based action plan with service users and update progress as needed
- Provide individuals with one-to-one support and participant-based support services
- Initiate and participate in case conferences, case management processes, and make referrals to internal/external supports as appropriate
- Counsel individuals and provide assistance where required and requested to minimize the negative effects of addictions and mental health
- Increase cultural understanding within the community, enhancing cultural identity and promoting a good way of life and well-being
- Assist in arranging emergency assistance as may be required for service users to access Detox, Medical/Mental Health services and Treatment services
- Develop and provide information, educational sessions and life skills training related to addictions and mental health for service users and other interested individuals

- Connect with Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers to ensure cultural approaches are integrated into the planning and delivery of the program

Urban Indigenous Homeward Bound (UIHB) Stabilization and Transition Coordinator
Objectives: To coordinate stabilization and transition supports for urban Indigenous women with children in their care who are trying to enter the workforce.
Responsibilities: The Urban Indigenous Homeward Bound (UIHB) Stabilization & Transition Coordinator will be responsible for phases 0, 1 and 4 of the 4-year UIHB program. In addition, will practice and role model cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed wholistic approach within the broader community.
- Work with service users to establish action/wellness plans with short, medium, and long-term goals to address immediate needs, and develop strategies to address barriers
- Provide access to life-skills development activities, safe and affordable housing and/or eviction prevention supports, securing rent supplements, childcare subsidies, afterschool care, children’s school enrollment, income support, transportation, and other supports
- Through assessment, identify transferable skills and interests to assess against the needs of life-skills programming and assist in navigating systems for supports
- Coordinate the planning of workshops on topics including life skills, financial literacy, healthy relationships, etc.
- Coordinate training to ensure service users gain other employment qualifications such as driver’s license, certifications, etc.
- Participate in case conferences, case management processes, and make referrals to internal/external supports as appropriate
- Work with Elders or Traditional Knowledge Keepers to provide opportunities to access culture, community, and ceremony
- Work in collaboration with other NFC programs to provide wrap-around services
Qualifications

Executive Director
Objectives: To provide strategic leadership and direction to advance NFC’s vision, mission, and mandate.
Responsibilities: The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the overall management and operations of NFC. Working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, community members and funding
partners to implement NFC’s Strategic Action Plan. In addition, will practice and role model
cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed, wholistic approach.
The Executive Director will:
- Oversee all aspects of NFC’s operations, including program management, finance,
human resources, and administration - Ensure effective utilization of resources and compliance with relevant policies,
procedures, NFC’s bylaws, and legislation - Assist the board in defining the direction of NFC as it relates to the needs of the
Indigenous community - Develop and implement strategic plans in alignment with NFC’s mission and vision
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous
communities, organizations, and leaders - Instill and support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
within NFC - Provide visionary leadership to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, and community
members - Identify emerging opportunities and challenges in the community and develop innovative
solutions to address them - Advocate for the needs and interests of urban Indigenous Peoples within NFC’s
catchment area and at regional levels - Develop and implement strategies to secure funding from government grants, private
donors, and other sources
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Indigenous studies, social work, or related
field) - Minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably working with and for Indigenous Peoples in
a nonprofit or Indigenous organization (Other combinations of education and experience
may be considered) - Strong knowledge of Indigenous issues, community development principles, and relevant
legislation and policies - Demonstrated commitment to Indigenous cultural awareness, history, sensitivity and
understanding - Inspiring leadership qualities to guide staff, community and volunteers in a meaningful

- Provide service users opportunities to learn about healthy nutrition and have improved access to healthy foods and to participate in recreational and physical fitness activities
- Provide structure fun, interactive activities and games
- Provide hands-on and interactive workshops for service users to introduce healthy food options and healthy meal preparation tools and instruction and relay nutritious information
- Ensure program services and activities are delivered as planned and supervised ensuring the health and safety of service users
