The Alternative Secondary School Program (ASSP) Coordinator will provide guidance and supports for Indigenous students in the program to achieve their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The Program Coordinator connects students to their community, to traditional knowledge keepers, to wraparound learning supports, and to Indigenous approaches to knowing and being.
The Alternative Secondary School Program (ASSP) offers standard Ontario secondary school curriculum, cultural programming (cultural credits), promotes Indigenous student success and provides an alternative learning environment for Indigenous learners wishing to obtain their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The cultural curriculum component allows for students to be introduced to a different way of learning, through an Indigenous pedagogical model which encourages critical thinking, innovative problem-solving, and independence.
